Gifts for Yacht Owners: Fort Lauderdale Boat Show 2026

A leather storage box with a figured timber lid and a knurled steel knob, the lid set at an angle to show the leather interior.

In brief

  • A gift for a boat faces one test before taste. It has to stow, and it has to survive being handled at sea.
  • Brokers should match the gift to the interior. Mahogany lids and walnut frames sit with yacht joinery, and the leather comes in eight tones.
  • Under $200 covers valet trays and coaster sets. $290 to $350 covers the boxes and the thermos. The backgammon set is the statement gift at $790.
  • Everything is made by hand and held in stock, typically delivered within 4–15 business days, so allow about three weeks before you need it in hand.
  • Start with the coaster set with the steel stand, from $180, and browse the rest of the gifting collection.

The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show runs from 28 October to 1 November 2026, its 67th edition. It spans six waterfront sites, from the Broward County Convention Center to the Superyacht Village at Pier Sixty-Six South. Five days, and a great deal of paperwork signed on board.

The awkward moment comes after it. A broker walks a client back down the passerelle, the deal is done, and there is a handover to make. A bottle disappears the same week. A branded cap goes in a drawer ashore. What is wanted is something that goes back aboard with the client and is still there next season.

Why the usual yacht gift fails

Most gifts aimed at boat owners are designed for a shelf in a house. Engraved acrylic, a rope motif, an anchor pressed into something that has no business carrying an anchor. On a boat these read as souvenirs of the transaction rather than part of the interior. The owner already has a designer, or strong opinions, or both.

The second failure is physical. A gift has to be stowed when the boat moves, cleaned by a crew that is already busy, and it has to survive salt, sun and constant handling. Anything that cannot go in a locker becomes the crew's problem. The useful question is not whether the recipient will like it on the day. It is whether it will still be aboard in two seasons.

For the broker: the closing gift

A closing gift has three constraints that a normal present does not. It must live on the boat, it must not fight the interior, and it must arrive inside the deal timeline.

Matching the interior is the part most people skip. Yacht joinery is usually a warm timber, and a gift that carries the same timber reads as considered rather than bought. The Leather Box with Mahogany Lid, Small is 27.5 x 20 x 5.5 cm, from $310, in eight colourways. Mahogany is the traditional timber of yacht joinery. That is the whole reason it is the lid.

Where the joinery is paler, walnut is the closer match. The Walnut-Framed Leather Storage Box, Large is 32 x 23 x 7 cm, from $300, in eight colourways. It takes a salon console or a sideboard, which is where a gift is most likely to be seen and least likely to be in the way. Both boxes are hand-covered in leather: one with a mahogany lid, one on a walnut frame.

For the captain or steward: a gift that earns its place

Crew buying for an owner have the advantage of knowing the boat, and a stricter standard. A gift chosen by the person who maintains the interior has to be defensible on function first.

Coasters are the clearest case. Coasters slide before the glass does, and a loose set ends up under the settee. The Woven Leather Coaster Set with Stainless Steel Stand is a set of six 10 x 10 cm coasters with a steel stand, from $180, in eight colourways. The weave here is pressed into the leather surface rather than woven from strips. The stand is the reason to choose this set aboard rather than a stack of six. Stainless steel in salt air needs one habit rather than a product: the Australian Stainless Steel Development Association describes the brown surface film that coastal exposure leaves on stainless as “tea staining”, a cosmetic issue that does not affect the metal, best prevented by a light and regular wash.

For a boat that starts early, the Leather-Wrapped Stainless Steel Thermos holds 1.5 litres at 12.5 x 12.5 x 24 cm, from $330, in seven colourways. A stainless vessel wrapped by hand in leather: it carries hot or cold drinks to the cockpit and sits there like part of the interior. Open-air living is where more of the day happens now, a shift covered in the note on deck design. It is the piece that goes into service the morning it arrives.

For family: something that is not another piece of kit

Buying for someone who has already specified every fitting aboard is a different problem. More equipment is not a gift. What works is something that gives people a reason to sit down together in the salon or the cockpit.

The folding leather backgammon set is full playing size at 50 x 38 x 3 cm open. It folds to 38 x 25 x 6 cm to stow in a locker. From $790, in four colourways: Turquoise, Cream, Forest Green and Sage Green. It is worked by hand in leather, and the folding case is what makes it a boat object rather than a drawing-room one. A board that cannot be stowed does not stay aboard.

Where the budget is smaller and the recipient is particular, a valet tray is the safe answer. The Woven Leather Valet Tray, 18.5 cm is 18.5 x 18.5 cm with 6 cm sides, from $160, in eight colourways. Like the coasters, its weave is embossed into the leather, not woven. Sizing one to a cabin shelf is covered in the guide to which tray suits which space.

Timing: ordering for the show and for December

Every piece is finished by hand in Türkiye, one at a time. Stock pieces ship within 1–2 business days and delivery is typically within 4–15 business days. Worldwide shipping is free.

That gives a simple rule of thumb rather than a deadline: order about three weeks before you need it in hand. The extra week is margin, not a published figure. It is worth having around a show, or before the December holidays when everyone orders at once. If a date is genuinely fixed, write to info@veyradeck.com before ordering rather than after.

Returns follow the Refund policy. Bespoke pieces are excluded, since they are cut to a single set of measurements.

Making it feel bespoke without a bespoke lead time

The thing that makes a stock piece feel commissioned is not an added mark. It is the colour being right for the boat. The leather comes in eight tones: Khaki, Black, Navy Blue, Grey, Mink, Beige, Tan and Brown. Choosing the one that sits with the joinery and the upholstery is the whole trick, and it costs nothing.

Everything is cut and finished by hand in Türkiye, one piece at a time. The wider move toward materials you touch rather than look at is covered in the Mediterranean season's shift from gloss to touch.

Bespoke sizes and finishes are available for yacht and contract projects. Send the measurements to info@veyradeck.com.

Common questions

Shipping to a marina or to the boat

Shipping is free worldwide and goes to the address entered at checkout. Marinas, agents and yard addresses vary in how they accept deliveries, so confirm the arrangement by writing to info@veyradeck.com before you order rather than after.

Which colour is safe if I do not know the interior?

Black and Navy Blue are offered on every piece except the backgammon set, which comes in Turquoise, Cream, Forest Green and Sage Green. Both sit quietly against timber joinery. Tan is the warmer choice where the boat is teak or walnut. If the recipient's designer is reachable, ask them instead of guessing.

Does leather actually survive on a boat?

Yes, with a simple routine. Salt is managed by habit: wipe with a soft dry cloth, keep pieces out of standing water and long spells of sun. That matches current museum practice, where the Canadian Conservation Institute advises minimising dressings, lubricants and cleaners on leather because of their long-term effects. The care and maintenance page sets out the routine.

How long does delivery take?

Stock pieces ship from Türkiye within 1–2 business days and typically arrive within 4–15 business days, depending on the destination. Worldwide shipping is free.

Ordering several pieces in matching colours

Yes, within the eight tones. Two exceptions are worth knowing before you commit. The piped valet tray, the rectangular valet tray and the thermos are not offered in Brown, and the backgammon set comes only in Turquoise, Cream, Forest Green and Sage Green.

Is gift packaging available?

Packaging is not listed on the product pages, so treat it as an open question rather than a given. Write to info@veyradeck.com with the delivery date and whether the gift is going to the recipient directly, and ask what is possible.

Where to start

Three pieces cover the three budgets. The Woven Leather Coaster Set with Stainless Steel Stand at $180 is the gift most likely to be used the week it lands. The Leather Box with Mahogany Lid, Small at $310 is the closing gift that matches the joinery. The folding leather backgammon set at $790 is the one people remember. See the gifting collection.

Every piece is made by hand in Türkiye and delivered typically within 4–15 business days, with free worldwide shipping.
