Superyacht Season Calendar 2026–27: Where Yachts Go

In brief
- The superyacht season calendar has two anchors: the Mediterranean in summer, the Caribbean and the Bahamas in winter.
- The Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November. Many insurance policies have traditionally tied cruising limits to that calendar.
- A motor yacht crosses from the Western Mediterranean in around 14 days at 12 knots. Peters & May's transport ships sail west from September to December.
- Key dates: Monaco 23–26 September 2026, FLIBS 28 October to 1 November, the Antigua Charter Yacht Show 4–9 December and the St Barths Bucket 17–21 March 2027.
- Plan a Christmas or New Year Caribbean charter early: Burgess notes that the most popular yachts are reserved up to a year in advance.
The Monaco Yacht Show opened at Port Hercule on 23 September and ran until 26 September 2026. Its organiser listed 120 superyachts, 43 of them new deliveries in 2026. The Atlantic hurricane season closes on 30 November, and yachts bound for the Caribbean usually leave Europe at the end of November.
That crossing is the hinge of the superyacht season calendar. What follows sets out the year from October 2026 to September 2027, with the reason behind each move.
The superyacht season calendar is the yearly pattern that moves yachts, crews and events between a Mediterranean summer and a Caribbean winter. The broker Burgess puts it plainly: most yachts are in the Mediterranean during summer, and in the Caribbean or the Bahamas over winter. Weather, insurance terms, charter demand and yard slots set the dates in between.
The superyacht season calendar at a glance, October 2026 to September 2027
The superyacht season calendar for 2026–27 runs in five movements. Autumn brings the last Mediterranean charters and the shows. Late November brings the Atlantic crossing. December to April is the Caribbean and Bahamas winter. April and May bring the return east, and the Mediterranean summer then peaks in July and August.
Individual yachts follow their owners' plans; the table shows the general pattern.

Autumn in the Mediterranean: the season closes at the shows

The Mediterranean yacht charter season closes in late September, after a July and August peak, YachtCharterFleet notes. Autumn belongs to the shows. Cannes held its 2026 festival on 8–13 September, and the Monaco Yacht Show ran from 23 to 26 September 2026.
October still rewards charterers. YachtCharterFleet notes that many areas continue to enjoy pleasant temperatures and warm seas into October. Burgess names April, May, late September and October as the best months to charter in the Mediterranean.
At Monaco, chief executive Toby Moore framed the 2026 edition around new tonnage: "you can walk the decks of forty-three yachts delivering this year". Before the show, Boat International gave an estimated, ever-changing total of 118 yachts. The design ideas on those decks are covered in superyacht deck design in 2026.
Not every yacht leaves. Flying Fish, a crew-training school, notes that some yachts stay in the Mediterranean over the winter for scheduled maintenance and surveys, a "yard period". Boat International reported in 2015 that reputable yards were often booked 12 to 18 months in advance. The figure is dated; current availability is a question for the yard.
Why the fleet waits for the end of the Atlantic hurricane season
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November, according to the NOAA National Hurricane Center, and Caribbean-bound yachts wait for it to close. Its statistical peak falls on 10 September. Many yacht-insurance policies have traditionally tied cruising limits to the hurricane-season calendar, which makes late November the natural point to leave.
NOAA's Atlantic basin includes the Caribbean Sea, and most activity falls between mid-August and mid-October. A yacht that reaches the Caribbean in December arrives after the season has formally closed.
Insurance turns the weather into dates. Cruising World explains that yacht-insurance policies have traditionally set latitude limits connected to the calendar. Under those traditional terms, cruisers may return to "the box", the area inside those latitude limits, only after 1 November. Many insurers, the article adds, use 30 November as the date for transit south.
Writing in Caribbean Compass in 2018, Don Street discusses policies that do not cover damage caused by a named storm or hurricane in "the hurricane box". Terms vary by policy, so the dates and named-storm conditions for any one yacht are for its insurance broker to confirm.
The weather adds a second reason. Y.CO notes that yachts leave at the end of November to exploit the north-easterly trade winds. Yachting World observed in 2021 that leaving late in November, with most of the crossing in December, maximises the Caribbean season.
The transatlantic crossing: own keel or yacht transport ship

A superyacht crosses the Atlantic in one of two ways: on its own keel with its crew, or as cargo on a yacht transport ship. Y.CO puts a motor yacht's crossing from the Western Mediterranean at around 14 days. Peters & May puts the average sea passage of its transport service at 12–20 days.
On its own keel, a motor yacht follows a well-worn route. Y.CO says Gibraltar is usually the first stop for duty-free fuel, before the yacht turns south-west towards the Canary Islands. The distance from the Western Mediterranean to the Caribbean is about 4,000 nautical miles, covered at an average cruising speed of 12 knots.
Sailing yachts run on different numbers. The ARC rally covers 2,700 nautical miles in around 18–21 days for the average yacht, from Gran Canaria to Saint Lucia. The 2026 edition starts on Sunday 22 November.
The alternative is to ship the yacht. Peters & May runs its westbound service from September to December, loading at seven European ports including Palma, Genoa and Southampton. DYT Yacht Transport lists 2026 sailings from Palma to Port Everglades and St Thomas, and from Genoa to Martinique, with all dates approximate. DYT argues that shipping can "reduce wear and tear on your vessel, minimize crew fatigue".
| Option | Route | Distance | Typical time at sea | When | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Motor yacht, own keel | Western Mediterranean via Gibraltar and the Canaries to the Caribbean | About 4,000 nm | Around 14 days at 12 knots | Usually end of November | Y.CO |
| Sailing yacht, ARC rally | Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia | 2,700 nm | Around 18–21 days, average yacht | Start 22 Nov 2026 | World Cruising Club |
| Yacht transport ship | European load ports to Antigua, St Thomas, Fort Lauderdale, Tortola or Newport | Not published | Around 12–20 days on average | September to December | Peters & May |
The motor and sailing figures describe different boats on different routes, so read each against its own source.
Winter in the Caribbean, the Bahamas and Florida
The Caribbean yacht season generally runs from December to March, YachtCharterFleet reports, with its busiest weeks over Christmas and New Year. December to April brings the region's driest weather, lower humidity and steady trade winds. In the Bahamas, November and May are the shoulder months.
The busiest weeks are also the most expensive. Burgess suggests late April or November to avoid them. Charter guests joining a crewed yacht for the first time can read the guide to crewed yacht charter etiquette.
Florida is the other hub. The Triton says thousands of captains, crew and yachts visit Fort Lauderdale each year for charters, refits or its location. The same 2024 article credits FLIBS with a $1.79 billion economic impact and more than 1,300 boats on display. Owners heading to this year's show can use the guide to yacht owner gifts for the Fort Lauderdale boat show.
Spring: regattas, Palm Beach and the return east
Spring is when the superyacht fleet turns back towards Europe. Y.CO says eastbound crossings run in April or May, with yachts sailing north-east from the Caribbean to the Azores to refuel and resupply. Before they leave, the St Barths Bucket, the Palm Beach show and Antigua Sailing Week fill March and April.
YachtCharterFleet reported in March 2026 on the spring migration from Antigua and St Barths, with many yachts pausing en route at the Azores. Flying Fish gives a wider window: arrivals in the Mediterranean between February and May.
Yachts can also ride home as cargo. DYT's provisional schedule shows Port Everglades to Genoa in March, April and May 2027, and St Thomas to Palma in May. Those dates are approximate, so an early-summer charter in the Mediterranean should allow for some slippage.
Summer 2027: the Mediterranean peak and the northern alternatives
Summer 2027 brings most of the fleet back to the Mediterranean, where charter demand peaks in July and August. The Atlantic hurricane season reopens on 1 June. Owners who want a different summer can look north: New England's peak runs from June to September, and Norway's best weather falls in June to August.
Burgess advises that booking in November or December for the following summer is ideal. For a July 2027 charter in the Mediterranean, that window opens this coming winter. The Cannes Yachting Festival 2027 then closes the year on 7–12 September, with Monaco's 2027 dates still to be confirmed by the organiser.
Planning a winter charter or owner trip: six checks
A winter charter or owner trip in the Caribbean works best when six things are settled in order. They are the dates, the booking window, the shoulder months, the yacht's arrival, the insurance terms and the yard slot. Each check follows from the calendar above.
- Fix the dates against the peak. Christmas and New Year are the busiest Caribbean charter weeks.
- Book early. Burgess notes that the most popular yachts are reserved up to a year in advance.
- Weigh the shoulder months. Late April or November in the Caribbean; November or May in the Bahamas.
- Confirm the yacht's arrival. A motor yacht leaving Europe at the end of November needs around 14 days to cross, which matters for an early-December start.
- Read the insurance dates. Many policies have traditionally tied cruising limits to the calendar. Ask the broker for the exact dates and named-storm terms.
- Book the yard slot early. Boat International's 2015 figure was 12 to 18 months ahead; confirm with the yard.
Common questions
Planning around the superyacht season calendar raises six practical questions. They cover the Caribbean peak, why yachts leave the Mediterranean, the crossing time, crossing by ship, the Mediterranean season and where yachts spend the winter. Each reply links to the source behind it.
When is peak season for a Caribbean yacht charter?
The Caribbean charter season generally runs from December to March, according to YachtCharterFleet, with its peak over Christmas and New Year. December to April is the most popular period, bringing the region's driest weather, lower humidity and steady trade winds. Burgess suggests late April or November for quieter, less expensive weeks.
Why do superyachts leave the Mediterranean in autumn?
Superyachts leave the Mediterranean in autumn to follow the season: Burgess notes that most yachts summer in the Mediterranean and winter in the Caribbean or the Bahamas. The Mediterranean charter season runs from May to late September. Caribbean-bound yachts usually wait for the Atlantic hurricane season to end on 30 November, then cross for the December peak.
How long does a transatlantic yacht crossing take?
A transatlantic yacht crossing takes a motor yacht around 14 days at an average 12 knots, covering about 4,000 nautical miles from the Western Mediterranean, according to Y.CO. For sailing yachts, the ARC rally's 2,700-nautical-mile route takes around 18–21 days for the average yacht. Peters & May puts the average sea passage of its transport ships at 12–20 days.
Do superyachts cross the Atlantic on their own or by ship?
Superyachts do both. Many cross on their own keel with their crew, usually at the end of November, via Gibraltar and the Canary Islands. Others travel as cargo: Peters & May runs a westbound yacht transport service from September to December. DYT Yacht Transport says shipping reduces wear and tear on the yacht and crew fatigue.
When is the Mediterranean yacht season?
The Mediterranean yacht season runs from May to late September, with July and August the busiest months, according to YachtCharterFleet. The shoulder months can suit charterers better. Burgess names April, May, late September and October as the best months to charter there. YachtCharterFleet adds that many areas stay pleasant and warm into October.
What happens to superyachts in winter?
Most superyachts spend the winter in the Caribbean or the Bahamas, according to Burgess. Some stay in the Mediterranean for a "yard period" of scheduled maintenance and surveys, as Flying Fish describes. Fort Lauderdale is another hub: The Triton says thousands of captains, crew and yachts visit each year for charters, refits or its location.
For readying the interior before a new season, the Veyra Deck room-by-room guide to yacht accessories works through each space aboard.
